For most tasks, we have to work with other people as a team and across the organisation. It's not always easy so how can you understand other people better, work together more effectively and communicate with each other? Working together - collaboration - should mean more gets done, or quicker, or better - hopefully all of that. The problem lies in difference - between us, in the way we act or think or feel. If we can appreciate our differences - see it as a strength not a weakness - then our experience at work will be richer and the organisation more effective and successful. The following are three examples of how 3D HR can help you and your organisation: There are various ways or instruments available to look at difference between people. The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) ® is probably the most widespread, with over 50 years of development and international research to make it robust and useful. Typically the MBTI involves a self-assessment, a questionnaire and a discussion. It can be applied to teams as well as individuals as long as people don't mind sharing their results. It helps people understand why others don't see the world as they do, why they learn and take in information differently and then make a different judgement on the results. And why some people are energised or exhausted by different environments. Peter Kenworthy is a qualified administrator of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and leads workshops to help people understand themselves and each other better, so that they can work more effectively as a team. You can read more about the MBTI in our resources section. A development of the MBTI is the Management Team Roles Indicator or MTRi . Using practical exercises and a questionnaire, we help team members identify the various roles they perform in the team and how these relate to each other (and possibly to their MBTI preferences). This helps to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the team as a whole - especially where some roles are over or under-represented. Internal communications is the most common issue in any organisation. There is either too little and people don't know what's going on - or what they feel they want or need to know - or there's too much with endless meetings, e-mails and consultation. People can learn how to chair and participate in meetings better, make e-mail work for them and learn how to use Information Communication Technology (ICT) such as intranets to make a positive difference in the work-place. We run workshops using DVD and video material where people learn practical ways to make meetings work. See the section on Growth for practical learning workshops for better individual e-mail management. Contact us to discuss the collaboration support you need.
